Comiket pictures
I'm back!

And alive, and poor, but oh so happy. ^_______^ I bought enough doujinshi that it's beginning to feel like I should count them in kilos, and not individual books. I had a great time with wonderful friends, and we were lucky with the weather and stayed at a good hostel and saw seiyuu, live! And we even made it to the nightbus three minutes before it was due to leave!

Unfortunately I'm more than just a little exhausted after the five nights and four days away from home, so I can't really be coherent in the writing. ^^;; However, I did manage to upload a couple of pictures from Comiket in a gallery, for the curious:

Comiket 70

As for what happened, shayera has a great report of the first and second days of Comiket, gnine has squeed about our third day in Tokyo (the one with the seiyuu event), and even xparrot has mentioned the weekend in a brief note. ♥ (Ah, yes - since shayera uses that name - naye is the LJ I use for my entries in Swedish.)

I want to write something too! But right now is... not a good idea. What with the not being able to keep my eyes open and all. ^^; So I'll get back to that - later. With much squee and possible abuse of emoticons and exclamation marks, because it was just that good a weekend. I don't know how I can do it justice without the liberal application of heartmarks! ♥

ETA: shayera's updated with a report on the third day!

Wooaaaw that looks like so much fun! And probably super tiring as well! At least the weather doesn't look so bad? I went to the San Diego Comicon and it was a sweltering high 90's with little wind. T____T And man, standing in line for 3 hours in that weather is NO FUN.

Oh, it was AWESOME! Just - fun. Incredible fun. I'm trying to figure out how I can make sure to come back to Japan soon enough to not miss the next summer Comiket. ^^;;

It's fantastic to see the Japanese fans and their amazing creativity. There weren't just doujinshi in comic form and novels, but - the little croched Luffy hat! She had little Luffys and Choppers too. Necklaces and earrings and keychains and postcards and towels with fandom motifs, fan-made remixes of game music, fan made games... There seems to be no end to the possibilities, and the creative genius of these fans. ^_^

We were sooo lucky with the weather. It's been in the mid 90's for a while now, with clear skies and high humidity, but right before Comiket Tokyo was hit by the edge of a typhoon, and the remains of storms down in the China covered the city in clouds and made it slightly cooler than it has been. I was serious about worrying about heatstroke otherwise - I can imagine standing in line for 3 hours in the high 90's, and - ouch. No fun at all. ^^;; Glad to see you survived, at least?

Oh, it was incredible! I mean - that much creativity, almost all connected to fandom, in one place? It's overwhelming, but in the best way possible. All that talent, all the imagination and the love for the fandom and the crack and the pretty and everything else, it's just amazing. I'm going to have to return to Japan, because I'll be so sad if I miss too many of these events, now that I know how much I love going to them...

We were really lucky with the weather - it'd been in the mid-90's up to then, with high humidity and bright sunshine every day, but just before I got there Tokyo was hit by a bit of a typhoon, and then the leftovers from a storm down in China drifted over here and cooled things down just a little bit. The cloud cover really was a good thing - I can imagine how it is to stand in line for three hours in that kind of weather, and all my imaginings lead to me fainting from heatstroke. Um. Yeah. I'm glad you made it out of Comicon alive! ^^;;

...and obviously LJ didn't eat my first reply that I wrote before having a snack, so now I look like I'm just repeating myself. Um. Yeah. I thought the first one was vanished, which is why you're getting two replies. And I needed food, which is why they're different. ^^;;

Wow, I so enjoyed looking at those pictures! *squees a bit* L cosplayer. So pretty. *_* I saved that picture, lol, I hope you don't mind... ^^ I'll be looking forward to reading your report, in the meantime I'll go read your friends'. :)

And... that's a lot of doujinshi. XD

Hee~! Yes, he was adorable. ♥ I didn't see any other L, though I think I saw another Mello? Death Note is really popular, so there probably were others around, though...

A lot. Yes. I'm giddy happy over them, except for when I think about the bit where I will have to get them home to Sweden safely! I worry about them. I can't sent them by ship - it takes ages, and things occasionally get lost. Sending them by air would be incredibly expensive, and only slightly safer, and even luggage you check in on airplanes gets lost sometimes. So the only alternative is my carry-on, but I honestly don't have enough space for them... ^^;; Meep!

Ah! Mello? You didn't get a picture of him, did you...? Lol. ^^; I'm still such a Mello fangirl. Though I keep it locked up inside, luckily for my friends! XD

Mm. I wanna meet an L cosplayer. Wonder what that'd do to my head. Haha... I'd ask him out, I know it. *__*

Aww, well... there's only one option left then. I have to come to Japan, and be your personal doujinshi-carrying-person. :D Oh, if only. ^^; I hope you'll find a way though. *crosses fingers for doujinshi to get to Sweden safely* ^_^

Awesome reporting and awesome photos! Japanese cosplayers are unbelievable, aren't they? And doujinshi are fabulous. I always lose my mind at the quality of the printing (publishing industry geek here), and the rainbow-colored metallic inks... that would be SO FRIGGIN' EXPENSIVE in the States! It would be prohibitive. Truly a labor of love, in all senses of the word.
ex_naye320 From: ex_naye320 Date: August 15th, 2006 01:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed them.

Oh, the cosplayers... yeah. Just - wow. Of course, there are cosplayers of varying skill and dedication in Japan just like anywhere else, but the really good ones? They blow me away. I'm waiting anxiously for my French friend erhune to get his site updated, because he was going mostly for the cosplayers, and probably ended up with a lot more pictures than me. I'll be sure to link it here when he gets a gallery up, because if you like cosplayers, I'm sure it'll be fun browsing. (I mean, I didn't even get a shot of the Miyazaki cosplayer! As in - person who was cosplaying as Hayao Miyazaki. He was there this winter too, and I just love that cosplay. ♥)

I don't even know first thing about the publishing industry, and I'm still losing my mind over the printing. It's so pretty! To look at and to touch and feel and that's before you even open them! So dangerous. ^^;; Especially when you're right there looking at it in front of the creator, and putting something down after exclaiming about it and looking over it and you know it's beautiful... I wasn't very good at it. Um. So yes. I did end up buying a few things because the cover had attracted me in the first place, even though the actual content didn't interest me much at all. But it's worth it! I mean, what's a few hundred yen compared to the pleasure I get of having these fantastic doujinshi, and the happy reactions I got from the doujinshiya when I said that I wanted to buy them?

I don't understand how they can afford it in Japan either, except that there is this big industry set up around it, and maybe the competition lowers prices? Or something? Mostly I just stick to being awed at what goes into maknig them.

Hee! Pics! Yay! And we're all back safe and sound with our loot! ^___^

I did the write-up on the third day, and it's up on my journal now.

Yes, pics! ^_^ (Too bad the seiyuu-event was no photos allowed...) And I've fixed most of the stupid mistakes I made in the comments on them yesterday, though I'm sure there are still plenty to be found...

Wow! You're fast! I haven't even eaten yet! Though... I did get up a while ago, internet is just distracting.

I greatly enjoyed your pictures and your comments on your weekend at Comiket and the seiyuu event. Imagine all those incredible, sexy-voiced seiyuu in one place! I'm not jealous so much of your time at Comiket--I think I would have found that exhausting. but I surely would love to have seen a couple or more of those Seiyuu live and in person!

I am duly shocked, frightened impressed by the number of doujinshi you bought. What really scares me, though, is the likelihood that xparrot came away from the con with as much or more than you. Please say it ain't so! Not only will she have the same problem as you getting it home; but I'm sure for some space of time we'll have to find room to store it here! Of course, that will have its own set of benefits, won't it?

Thanks for your post. I love your cover photo pic. I hope you won't mind if I copy it to my family & friends screensaver photo file. Is that you sitting with xparrot and gnine, or is it shayera?

Thank you! (Again. I never get tired of compliments!)

Oooh, the seiyuu. I need to write my own report on that, because - yes. That was fantastic! I also enjoyed Comiket immensely, because it was a chance to meet the doujinshi creators face to face... I wish my Japanese was better, but there were still some great moments. gnine was fantastic - I was with her when we bought our Nightrunner doujinshi, and she chatted with the girls selling them, and they were soooo happy. It was grwat!

Heee. Yes. Well. In defense of my sanity, I only owned about 20 before I left for Comiket! So I'm still not up in a hundred. Though I did buy more than any of us - even xparrot! shayera beats me in variety, though - she got stuff from twenty different fandoms! I only got them for eleven. And I'm indexing and putting my stuff on a webpage now, if you'd be interested in seeing that!

And in case anyone else wonders - that's the other three. I'm sneaking up on them with my camera. ^_~
