So much plot... Still not recovered! Read it again in Japanese - so much talk. ^^;;

As for Jump Festa - I don't think, I know. Shanks is still crazy popular, and his introduction scene is just so cool. I'm thinking good candidates for originals (since this is Oda, and he gets to put up a lot) are chibi Robin (maybe the scene where she's holding hands with Orbia?), Merry's farewell, and possibly the big Cobymeppo intro...

Bet! Aaah... He did it because he believes Luffy is the future, in other words. And it's true - before we talked about it like that, I just hadn't thought about it enough to reach the conclusion that Shanks would've had to do all that on purpose. And he's still doing it, whatever he's doing... Keeping Ace and Blackbeard from killing each other? Or trying to, at least.

I don't know how much Shanks would've known of what Roger knew... though if he knew something like that, it would help explain things. Maybe. Um... Shanks couldn't be a D, could he?

Random note: it was raining in Logue Town on the day of Roger's execution. It wasn't raining in the actual flashbacks to his death, but it's raining when Buggy and Shanks are arguing. Which we've seen before: rain not during, but after an event on the execution platform. Just sayin'!

Mihawk - Zoro's alive, but Zoro lost, and lost badly, and has the scars to show for it. Shirohige lost too, and he's still in a bad state from it. Shanks must've lost, but he seems to be in pretty good shape for someone who's challenged Mihawk seriously. SO. Yeah. It's possible that Shanks is (or at least was) a better swordsman than Zoro. O_O Whoa. And with no devil fruit powers! (It's strange how the very strongest fighters we've seen seem to be non-augmented...) But then he went and got scarred by Kurohige, which says... um. A LOT about Kurohige's strength.

I'm thinking Shirohige and Shanks are not fighting as much as... making a point? Or something. With them, who knows. ^^;;

Kurohige has a plan rather than a reason, I think. Or the plan is the reason he killed that guy. He's been planning (dreaming?) something for a long time, and I'm guessing whatever happened with the Shirohige nakama was that he got in the way. Or at least that's a nice and logical explanation, which means it's probably WAY off.

Shirohige is old - he even looks old, actually. He's old enough to refer to Shanks as a "boy", and not have it sound strange. I'm thinking the giant lifespan is definitely plausible. We still don't know anything about the weird half-giants, or whatever they are. Hmmm. But him and his crew - aww.

What else... oh, yeah! Randomly - did you notice the tattoo on Ace's back?! Odacchi changed it! Before even the anime and products had it different, since the 卍 has such negative connotations for everyone from non-Buddhi
sts cultures, but now even Odacchi's doing it as a plain crossed-bones pattern. It wasn't like that before in the manga, right? I'm not going crazy?

Went and checked the tattoo thing! Yes, Oda changed it. Not only Ace's tattoo, though - Ace's tattoo is of Shirohige's flag, after all, and the flag also has the plain crossbones in this chapter. Back in volume 25, both flag and tattoo had the swastica. Maybe he wanted to change it for a more international appeal?

Shanks knows what he's doing, even if no one else does (except his crew, possibly)... He came to late to do anything about a confrontation between Ace and Kurohige, but that just because both the Marine and Shirohige himself have been hindering him.

If he was on Roger's crew, there's at least a chance that he was told Things, especially if he was one of the main members. And, um... he could be a D, technically. "Akagami" is not an actual name, so we don't know if he has any names beyond just "Shanks". But... yeah. Not impossible? This is Oda!

True about the rain. But in Luffy's case, the rain came because of the storm Dragon created to safe Luffy's life. Roger was executed, so... I don't know. You think Dragon was there? (I wouldn't be surprised - it was the kind of event everyone would want to attend!)

A plan, yes. Kurohige is obviously thinking, but we have no idea what he's thinking. Well, except that he apparently aims for a post as Shichibukai, and thinks that capturing Luffy would be a good way to go about it. Hmm...
